Thoreson, Good represent Trappers in CasperWith two rounds under his belt, Northwest College's Gus Thoreson is off to a good start at the College National Finals Rodeo in Casper. Thoreson is one of just two Northwest College Trappers competing in the event. Thoreson tallied identical 72.5-point rides in the first and second rounds of the saddle bronc competition to give him a two-ride total of 145 points. The scores tied Thoreson for eighth place in each of the two rounds, but his consistency had him sitting in fifth position after two rounds. Thoreson was scheduled for his third ride on Wednesday night, after today's paper had gone to press. After three rounds, riders will be pared down with the top point totals advancing to the finals. Northwest College's Casey Good wrapped up his performance at this year's College National Finals Rodeo on Tuesday night. Good's stay in Casper started well with a 12.6-second first-round time in tie-down roping that left him in 12th place after day one. Good's times steadily increased in subsequent rounds, however. The Trapper clocked in with a time of 17.2 in round two before capping his stay in Casper with a time of 25.9 seconds in round three. Good's combined time of 55.7 seconds had him sitting in third place among the handful of competitors to have concluded all three rounds by press time Wednesday. Twelve competitors who had successfully clocked times in each of the first two rounds had yet to take part in round three, leaving Good's prospects for a spot in the finals unclear. As a team, the Trapper tandem had gathered 50 points by the conclusion of Tuesday's rodeo sessions. That placed Northwest College in a tie for 37th place among the 53 men's teams represented in Casper. The University of Tennessee-Martin held a slim lead over Montana-Western and Western Texas College in the overall men's standings. Cal Poly-San Luis Obispo led the 28-school women's field. The College National Finals Rodeo runs through Saturday.
