Civil Air Patrol Squadron names new commander

Posted

Brian Hoover, a Cody resident, was recently named Commander of the Yellowstone Regional Composite Squadron of Civil Air Patrol. He replaces Lt. Col. BJ Carlson of Burlington, who has been commander since January of 2020. He was also promoted to the grade of 1st Lt. as a result of his new command. Wyoming Wing Commander, Col. Ken Johnston, was present to conduct the change of command and promote Hoover.

Hoover is co-owner of Wyoming Outpost Auctions, located in Cody, where he specializes in auctioning firearms. His son, Troy Hoover, is a senior airman in the squadron and just recently passed the written portion of his Wright Brothers test to become a staff sergeant.

Hoover is looking forward to leading the crew of 11 senior members and 13 cadets in 2024 and he is also interested in understanding what it takes to become a member of an aircrew for search and rescue. In the near future he will be trained to be a mission scanner.

Civil Air Patrol is a nonprofit auxiliary of the United States Air Force. Its missions are cadet programs, aerospace education and emergency services. The local squadron meets every Tuesday evening from 6:30-8:30 at the Math/Science Building on the Northwest College campus.
