City council candidates advance uncontested

Posted

Election night is stressful for a majority of candidates, but Powell City Council candidates were able to go through the night stress free walking out of the other side of their uncontested primaries unscathed.

In Ward 1, Steve Lensegrav won the primary with an unofficial vote total of 347, or 98.86% of the vote. There were only four total write-ins for the ward, which will not place another name officially on the ballot in November.

If elected in November, it will be Lensegrav’s second consecutive term on the council after winning election in 2018.

Heading over to Ward 2, Zane Logan finished with 629 votes according to the unofficial results, totaling 97.98% of the vote.

Logan will be seeking his first full term on the council in November after he was appointed in January 2021 to replace Scott Mangold when he was voted to the Park County Commission. Thirteen ballots included write-in nominations, not enough to reach the 25 vote threshold required by Wyoming Statute 22-5-215 to advance to the November ballot.

Finishing in Ward 3, Tim Sapp finished with an unofficial tally of 497 votes, totaling 97.83% of the vote.

Sapp has been on the council for 20 years, and is seeking his sixth straight term.

Once results are finalized, Sapp will advance to the November ballot, where he will once again be running uncontested as only 11 write-in votes total were cast.
