Breaking news: Powell inmate captured

Authorities have captured Ryan Patrick Burgess, an inmate formerly of Powell, who escaped from the state minimum-security prison in Riverton early Monday.According to the Associated Press, Burgess was caught on the Wind River Indian Reservation in Fremont County at about 7 a.m. Tuesday. Police say he was driving a stolen vehicle.The state Department of Corrections says Burgess was discovered missing from the Wyoming Honor Farm at 5:45 a.m. Monday when he failed to show up for kitchen duty.Burgess is serving a sentence for involuntary manslaughter.Burgess was convicted of accidentally shooting and killing Patrick Teasdale, 18, in an Oct. 24, 2004 incident. Burgess and Teasdale were driving around Powell with guns after a night of heavy drinking. As Burgess was “messing around” in the car, his firearm went off, striking Teasdale in the back. Teasdale died of his injuries.In June 2005, Burgess was sentenced to seven to 10 years in prison. A 2006 motion to reduce that sentence was denied.Department of Corrections spokeswoman Melinda Brazzale told the Associated Press that Burgess would have been eligible for parole this September.
