Blair’s employee charged with felony theft

Posted

A former Blair’s Market employee was arrested Wednesday on charges of felony theft and parole violation after allegedly stealing $1,936.74 from the business.

According to the affidavit written by Powell Police Officer Paul Sapp, he had been sent to Blair’s Market by Dispatch who advised him that Angel Burt was on probation for stealing from her previous employer.

Upon Sapp’s arrival, Burt was told she was not under arrest and was provided with her Miranda rights. According to the affidavit, Burt told Sapp she had stolen roughly $200 from the business, because she had difficulty paying bills and “needed extra money.”

Sapp was told by a Blair’s Market manager that Burt had stolen at least $500 and had paperwork to support the thefts had in fact taken place. The money was allegedly taken over a period of days and was near $100 or over on those days according to the affidavit.

“I was not sure at that point in time if the total of all of the thefts was around $800, or if it was around $1,300 given the way the amounts were read off to me,” Sapp wrote in the affidavit.

Burt was arrested and taken to the Powell Law Enforcement Center for theft and parole violation. At the time, $191.07 was found in Burt’s wallet, and according to the affidavit she admitted all of the money was stolen from Blair’s Market.

The amount totaled by Blair’s Market was found to be over $1,000 which made the theft charge a felony instead of a misdemeanor.

Burt was on six months of probation for misdemeanor theft from her previous employer with nine days of incarceration suspended. Following Wednesday’s charges, a petition has been filed to revoke Burt’s probation, which stipulated that she obey all local and federal laws.

In 2021, Burt was convicted of stealing less than $1,000 from her previous employer.

Burt is currently held at the Park County Detention Center on a $2,500 bond.
