Banks wins Park County primary election for HD 26

Dalton Banks, 27, of Cowley, won the primary elections for HD 26 representative  Tuesday based on unofficial results.

According to these results Banks won with 1,100 votes in Big Horn County and 78 votes cast in Park County from precincts 6-1 and 10-1 which totaled 1,178 votes. Results will be official Friday after ballot audits are completed.

Banks’ closest competitor, Tim Beck had 882 votes. Of these votes 82 votes were from Park County precincts 6-1 and 10-1. Beck did not respond by press time.

Gary Welch and Timothy Wells also ran for election with 510 votes and 308 total votes respectively.

For Banks winning the primary election is humbling and an honor he does not take lightly.

“I’m very honored that people would trust me to be their voice at the Capitol and fight on their behalf,” Banks said.

According to Banks the election process was both “enjoyable and nerve wracking.” In part because Banks had his work ahead of him to convince the people of his district that he was qualified for the position despite his young age.

Banks, who does not have a Democrat challenger for the position going into the general election on Nov. 8, 2022, looks forward to working with other legislators for the benefit of Wyoming.

As representative, Banks thinks that rural Wyoming needs a stronger voice.

“The urban areas, Cheyenne and Casper, just walk all over us because they have a bigger voice,” Banks said.
