Tribune photo by Gib Mathers A small army of volunteers pitched in Wednesday to give boxes and bags of food and toys to 150 recipients at the annual Christmas Basket program.Shopping carts made a wiry sound like cloaked cymbals as they were wheeled out of the Park County Fairgrounds Multi-purpose Room to the snowy parking lot.

“Forty-five!”

Each recipient received a number, and volunteers loaded a cart or dolly and called out the number. While the carts were stocked, customers shopped for free items such as blankets, sheets, pillows, boots and hats. There were refurbished bikes for the taking, too.

“One-thirteen!”

Mason Ron Watson wheeled a shopping cart heaped with food and toys to make one family's Christmas better.

The local Masonic Lodge has been pushing Christmas Basket carts for years.

“We come every year to help out,” Watson said.

There were 50 or 60 volunteers Wednesday, but hundreds of volunteers and a healthy helping of contributors make the program a shining success year after year.
