The Wyoming Coaches Association, hosts of the highly anticipated 2024 All-Star Soccer Games, recently announced the cancellation of the event due to an unforeseen shortage of coaches. Originally scheduled to take place at Thunder Basin High School in Gillette from June 20-22, the cancellation came as a disappointment to soccer enthusiasts and players alike.

Despite extensive preparations and anticipation from fans from around Wyoming, the inability to secure an adequate number of coaches rendered it impossible to proceed with the event, the WCA said.

The All-Star Soccer Games, renowned for showcasing the talents of Wyoming graduated senior players from various 3A and 4A schools, have always been a highlight of the soccer calendar.

However, without the guidance and expertise of experienced coaches, the committee deemed it impractical to ensure the safety and quality of the event.

“We deeply regret having to make this decision,” said Mike Sauers, a WCA Soccer representative. “The All-Star Soccer Games are a celebration of skill, teamwork, and sportsmanship. However, without the necessary coaching staff to oversee the matches and provide guidance to the players, we cannot guarantee the integrity of the event.”

Efforts to recruit additional coaches in the lead-up to the event proved unsuccessful, despite the WCA’s best endeavors. Factors such as scheduling conflicts, logistical challenges, and the ongoing demands of the soccer season contributed to the shortage.

The Wyoming Coaches Association extends its gratitude to the players, sponsors, and fans who have supported the All-Star Soccer Games throughout the years. Plans for future events will be reassessed, with a commitment to ensuring that adequate coaching resources are secured well in advance.

For players, officials, and families who had already committed to the 2024 All-Star Soccer Games, the Wyoming Coaches Association expressed its apologies for the cancellation of this year’s event.
