Powell High School graduates Austin Griffin and Belen Quillen are laid back, private people. They were quietly engaged in an Airbnb with plans of a small wedding ceremony.

“I specifically requested no grand proposal. The idea of a public proposal would be a nightmare to me,” Quillen said.

But nearly three years later they’re still waiting to tie the knot.

The Covid pandemic put an unexpected halt on wedding festivities and Quillen’s line of work certainly doesn’t make scheduling easy. It’s hard to plan a wedding when you’re enlisted in the Air Force and work in nuclear missile operations.

She joked that Covid helped put off the stress of a looming wedding while they were still trying to figure out what they wanted. 

Quillen praised her soon-to-be hubby who currently works in Great Falls, Montana, as a master brewer at Jeremiah Johnston Brewing Co. for being able to adapt to her career and the frequent travel and moves that come with it. 

Belen and Austin have now decided on a courthouse marriage, a small private affair with those close to them.  

They have moved around together for Quillen’s work and do not expect the official paperwork to change much, other than Air Force benefits for a married couple, which Griffin said opens up a lot of opportunities.

They don’t know exactly when they will get married — they even had a Wyoming marriage license at one point which was never used. But when they do tie the knot it’s been proven for three years that nothing can shake this couple.
