Dear editor:
In response to the letter by Dennis Reuter in the March 26 Powell Tribune.
We know that politics is a dirty business. It always has been. We have dirty politicians on both sides of the aisle — that cannot even be questioned. We also have those who are honest and really care about this country though they can be overshadowed by the dishonest ones. Ask yourself how Sen. Chuck Schumer has a worth of $70 million after being in Congress for 30 years.
Mr. Reuter talks about Trump and the Jan. 6ers. All of them have made mistakes but just being on the capitol property at the time of the so called “insurrection” does not make one guilty of anything. The Jan. 6 Committee was out to get Trump but apparently found nothing so they destroyed the information they found and pretended that they didn’t spend millions to “Get Trump.” Where is the “due process” for those Jan. 6ers who stood outside and did nothing? None of them harmed anyone but the capitol police killed Ashley Babbitt and knocked an elderly lady down, not just once but twice. You need to see the videos.
Damage was done by the people who were invited to enter the capitol building by the police but it came nowhere near the destruction Black Lives Matter did to Seattle and Portland. That damage totaled billions of dollars and changed many lives and livelihoods forever. No one was arrested or imprisoned for those riots because they were described as “ generally peaceful.” (A riot is a “violent disturbance of the peace by a crowd.”)
Now, I ask you: When you lose all your freedoms, freedom of speech, freedom to bear arms, freedom to be secure in your homes and protected from unreasonable search and seizure, your right to a speedy trial and considered innocent until proven guilty, no excessive bail or fines imposed, no cruel or unusual punishment, how will you feel? Our Constitution says we have these rights but our present government ignores them. Whether you are a Democrat or a Republican this government will come for you eventually if you disagree with anything they say or do.
We do have the right to question the 2020 election. That is all the Jan. 6ers wanted. If you have not seen “2000 Mules” or a video with a timeline of events on that day you do not know the truth.
One thing we do know is that the Democrats only see one side of the story when they watch MSNBC, NBC, Morning Joe, ABC, CBS and CNN, et al. When we watch conservative TV we get both sides of the story.
