Dear editor:
In response to the letter in your issue of June 4 from the Wyoming Republican Party:
On Jan. 6, 2021, thousands of members of the “law and order” party rioted at the U.S. Capitol, assaulting police officers, damaging, defacing, and destroying public property, and threatening the murder of elected officials. Hundreds have so far been convicted of the crimes perpetrated, and hundreds more are facing prosecution.
The reason they were there was because of a false claim of the 2020 election having been stolen; in actual fact, no evidence has been presented of any election interference that would significantly change the result of the election. On the contrary, members of the “law and order” party in at least two states and ultimately as many as seven are facing felony charges in what has come to be known as “the fake elector scheme.” Those people are the true faces of an attempt to steal an election.
The leader of the “law and order” party has been convicted on 34 felony counts. These are separate from the civil proceedings which found him guilty of rape and fraud. Criminal or civil, the verdicts nevertheless imply a certain disrespect for “law and order.” Of course, he is facing a number of other criminal charges, in both federal and state courts. He is also an “unindicted co-conspirator”(at least until such time as he gets indicted) in at least one of those “fake elector” states.
At least 11 lawyers who have represented the leader of the “law and order” party are facing sanctions, fines and possible disbarment for the disrespect they’ve shown for the law while representing the first convicted felon president in American history.
If indeed, as the ventriloquist dummies of the “law and order” party claim, the criminal conviction of the ventriloquist himself was rigged, an appeals court will overturn the conviction.
But whether it’s an election or a criminal case, you don’t get to claim victimhood just because you lost. Show some respect for a constitutional republic, and show some respect for the law, hypocrites.
