Posted

If you are a woman age 40 or older and don’t have a primary care doctor or health care provider, Powell Valley Healthcare providers want to give you the opportunity for a free clinical breast exam.

The free exams take place each Thursday during the month of October. You simply need to call the clinic to schedule a timeslot, at 307-754-1264. The providers offering free exams include Dr. Carletta Collins, Dr. Jenkins Clarkson, Ashley Engesser and Miriam Hughes. Dr. Collins is also providing free consults for women at high risk due to genetic predisposition and family history of breast cancer, regardless of age. Call for more information and criteria for this free consult.

According to Breastcancer.org, breast cancer is the most common cancer in the world, accounting for 12.5% of all new cancer cases worldwide. And one in eight women will develop invasive breast cancer in their lifetime.

Breast cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer among U.S. women. Early detection is still the best way to fight breast cancer and improve chances of survival from the disease. Clinical breast exams, along with other screening and evaluation are important for early detection and prevention. It is important to talk to your doctor or health care provider about your risk of developing breast cancer.

The free clinical breast exams are available Oct. 5, 12, 19 and 26. You need to call to schedule a time. Dr. Collins is located at Powell Valley Clinic, building B and Dr. Clarkson, Ashley Engesser, and Miriam Hughes are located at Powell Valley Clinic, building C.
