Program on freeing pets from traps scheduled for Saturday

A Saturday event to teach owners how to get their pets out of traps is scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 11 in the Grizzly Room at the Park County Public Library in Cody.

The event is sponsored by Wyoming Untrapped and the Humane Society of the United States and will feature lessons on how to save your pet’s life with instruction from Dave Pauli, Program Manager Wildlife Conflict Resolution for the Humane Society.

Traps can be lethal to pets, highlighted after Karen Zoller, of Pavillion, petitioned the state when her dog was caught and killed in a snare equipped with a dispatch spring. Zoller had been out for a run on a popular Bureau of Land Management property area and was traumatized after not being able to get her dog, Mac, out of the trap and having him die in her arms, inspiring Zoller to share her story to warn others.

The event, which runs from 10 a.m.-noon, is free for all ages. For more information, please see the group’s Facebook page: @wyominguntrapped.org.
