A Powell High School student is going to Montana State University on the Provost Scholarship, allowing him to obtain an education without paying tuition fees. And that’s not all — MSU will put an extra $1,000 on top.

Seeger Wormald, whose parents both attended MSU, will be continuing the tradition thanks to the prestigious scholarship. 

Wormald was also offered the Trustees’ Scholar Award at the University of Wyoming but was drawn to Bozeman by the new environment, proximity to the mountains and his MSU heritage. 

Accompanying Wormald’s scholarship success is the possibility of being named a Presidential Scholar. He is a semi-finalist for the 2024 Presidential Scholars Award, six of whom are Wyomingites. He and fellow Powell High School student Kik Hayano make up one third of Wyoming’s semifinalists, highlighting the strength of Powell’s senior class, he said. 

“It would mean a lot, it would kind of sum up the hard work that I’ve been trying to put in for the past few years,” Wormald said, adding “So it would mean a lot to me and then I know it would to family and my friends.”

When Wormald arrives at MSU he will not be lacking business knowledge. Last year, he and a couple friends started a clothing brand, Smooth Sailing. As the seniors look at graduation the business is being put on the back burner, but it did enjoy some success, Wormald said.

“This helped spur my interest, but I always kind of wanted to be in business. I kind of like to be a leader, be in charge of things sometimes,” he said. “I always thought business was an interesting field to go into.”

He hopes to get a bachelors in business administration and eventually an MBA.

After graduating from MSU, Wormald sees himself joining a pre-existing business and working his way to the top. 

But in the meantime he will be plugging into some form of campus ministry and enjoying himself in the Montana mountains.
