Park County gets new ag extension educator

Posted

People in Park County can now turn to Makayla Getz for advice as she was recently selected to fill the vacant post of Park County Extension’s agriculture and natural resources educator.

Getz has experience in agriculture and a master’s degree from Texas’s Tarleton State University.

She previously taught a class at her alma mater on agricultural economics and management. After being involved in 4-H and FFA in her youth, Getz decided to expand her knowledge and experience in digital marketing before being called back into agriculture.

“I decided to go back to school for agriculture and consumer resources,” she said. “Through that is where I actually took extension courses, learning about what you do on the day-to-day starting up programs, and working with the community. That’s what really drove me to this position.”

Getz is excited about becoming involved in the program and community through her role at the extension office.

“The biggest thing initially is just getting to know the community, meeting growers and ranchers along with local businesses like the Powell and Cody chambers all throughout Park County,” she said. “From there, it’s assessing where are the gaps, what are their needs and then starting up programs to fulfill those needs.”

Getz is embracing her new position and her new home.

“[Powell] is a great and diverse area to work in,” she said. “I know they’ve had the (agriculture and natural resources) role not filled for a while, so I’m excited to come in and see what I can do there.”
