Loyd L. Myers

Loyd L. Myers passed away early on Thursday, Sept. 7, 2023 at the age of 92 years and seven months.

Loyd was the second child and oldest son of Ray G. Myers and Ruth Alice Hazen. He was born in Powell, Wyoming and raised on a farm northeast of Powell. After high school, Loyd joined the Army (later Air Force) and served in the Korean War, mostly stationed in Japan. Returning home, he met and married Jeanine Averett of Lovell June 3, 1954. Loyd and Jeanine raised five children (Robert L and Nina Myers of Custer, South Dakota; Brenda and the late Murray Mock of Ridgeland, South Carolina; Kenneth and Christine Myers of Marshall, Minnesota; Jeanette Myers of Lovell, Wyoming; and Renee and Chris Cooper of Custer, South Dakota. They have 15 grandchildren and 25 greatgrandchildren.

During the early years of their marriage, Loyd and Jeanine lived in Montana, Wyoming and North Dakota as he was employed in the oil fields. In 1976 they moved their family to Managua, Nicaragua for two years drilling for geothermal energy. Loyd also worked in Bahrain and all over the Rocky Mountain area, as well as Australia, Oklahoma, Texas, Connecticut, Nevada, Utah and Rhode Island. He instilled in each of his children the importance of an education. Loyd’s pride and joys were his dogs, garden, and most importantly his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

Loyd was preceded in death by his parents (Ray and Ruth), older half-brother Roy, half-sister Nina Larmer, older sister Ramona, younger brother Glen, one grandchild, one great grandchild, as well as his beloved wife of 57 years Jeanine Averett. He is survived by younger sister Betty of Tahlequah, Oklahoma and each of his five children.

In keeping with his wishes, cremation and a private family service have already taken place.
