Frederick “Freddie” Onstine of Powell, Wyoming, passed away on April 16, 2023, at his home surrounded by loved ones.

Freddie was born on Sept. 17, 1951, in Powell, Wyoming, to Norma and Frederick W. Onstine of Powell, Wyoming. He was the baby of the family which included three brothers and one sister. He spent his childhood and younger years roaming the neighborhoods of Powell causing mischief. Since his youth, Freddie never knew a stranger. He graduated from Powell High School in the class of 1970 where he played basketball and track, and is remembered for his short stature and speedy legs. He spent the next several years selling automotive parts and raising his first two children, Tammy and T.J. He met his forever wife, Connie, in the early 80s. The two bonded while playing softball and fishing. They went on to have two more children, RayAnn and Willie. They claimed Nancy as one of their own after years of babysitting. Freddie and Connie spent their years watching their kids’ and grandchildren’s activities, traveling to see family which usually included sister-in-law, Kathy Grienke, watching racing and gambling. They loved adventuring while camping all over the state and traveling across the country. Their time was often spent riding four wheelers, camping with friends and family, taking the boat fishing or just for a cruise and playing cards with friends.

Freddie worked selling parts for many years and wrapped up his working days with 27 years with the Park Country School District working as a mechanic in the bus barn and driving school buses. He enjoyed teaching children during safety week. He also served his community as a fireman with the Powell Volunteer Fire Department for 15 years and sat on the board for multiple years.

Freddie will always be remembered as the best and worst bus driver ever depending on level of shenanigans, a loving father, a cranky smartass, a hard worker, a Pepsi lover and McDonalds regular.

He was preceded in death by wife Connie Onstine, son T.J. Onstine, brothers Eugene and Ray Onstine, sister Jeannine Wood and parents Frederick and Norma Onstine.

He is survived by his children: Tammy (John) Grinsteiner, RayAnn (Tyler) Hessenthaler, Willie (Jade) Onstine, and Nancy (Nick) Picucci; his brother, Ralph (Noralee) Onstine; 10 grandchildren and two great- grandchildren.

Freddie’s memorial service will be Friday, April 21, at 10 a.m at Thompson Funeral Home. A link to the livestream can be found at www. thompsonfuneral.net.
