Abraham breaks 31-year-old record

The Powell Middle School boys followed the Lady Cubs lead at last weekend’s invitational meet at Cody, with a number of top finishes and even breaking a long-standing school record in the process.

Powell seventh-grader Kadden Abraham broke the 1985 record set by Mike Rodgers in the 100-meter dash with his time of 16.03 seconds. Rodgers’ time was 16.20, and he went on to compete at the Division I level in college after a standout career at Powell High School.

Another win for the seventh-graders came from the 4x100 relay team of Abraham, Riley Bennett, Canyon Gonzalez and Landon Lengfelder as they teamed up to time in at 53.38 seconds.

Abraham kept busy by getting second-place finishes in the 200-hurdles (29.52 seconds) and pole vault (8 feet), with four more Cubs getting seconds.

Lengfelder was runner-up in the 400-meter run (1:02.47), as was Tyler Pfeifer in the 1600 (5:33.68), Braily Gann in the 100-hurdles (17.10) and Zeke Frankenberry in the discus (90 feet, 5 inches).

Lengfelder (13.36) and Pfeifer (1:05.09) would place third in the 100- and 400-meter dashes, respectively, with Ashton Brewer getting third in the 800 (2:43.87). Also in third were Bennett in the pole vault (8 feet) and Gonzalez in both the discus (87 feet, 11 inches) and shot put (31 feet, 1.5 inches).

Seven fourth-place finishes were brought in, two by Jose Hernandez in the 800 and 1600, timing in at 2:45.87 and 5:47.70, while Gonzalez was fourth in the 100-meter dash in 13.38 and Bennett in the 100-hurdles at 19.13 seconds.

Gann got fourth in the high jump, clearing 4 feet, 5 inches, and Brewer had fourths in both the 200-hurdles (34.46) and discus (85-07).

Ethan Thiel and Mark Pappenfort would get fifths in the 200-dash and 100-hurdles, respectively.

Sixth-place finishers were Gann in the 100-dash, Darren Blackmore in the 100-hurdles, William Kost in the high jump and Lengfelder in the pole vault.

For the eighth-grade boys, Brody Karhu came away with two wins and a second-place finish, taking first in the 400 (55.21) and 800 (2:19.41) and second in the pole vault (9-6).

Colin Queen would get a win in the 1600 with a time of 5:19.65 and Dacen Phister won the pole vault by clearing the bar at 10 feet.

Phister also added a pair of seconds in the 200-hurdles (30.01) and high jump (5 feet), while Queen was runner up in the 800 at 2:24.78.

Chase Rausch was another second-place finisher in the 200-meter dash, timing in at 26.31 seconds, and Noah Mumford placed second with his throw of 112 feet, 8.5 inches in the discus.

No less than 10 third-place finishes were posted by Powell, starting with Jay Cox in the 400 (1:01.72), Aidan Jacobson in the 800 (2:34.80), Dylan McMillan in the 100-hurdles (17.54) and Alexis Reynoso in the 200-hurdles (31.09).

Bausch cleared 5 feet in the high jump for third, Queen pole vaulted 8 feet, 6 inches, Caden Lynn took third in the long jump with a leap of 15 feet, 11.5 inches and Dylan Preator placed the same in the triple jump at 31 feet, 1-inch.

Ryan Good then got third in the discus (110-02) as did Lynn in the shot put (38-2.5).

Bausch crossed the line in the 100-meter dash in 12.65 seconds to get fourth, Kason Cannon went 27.47 in the 200 for fourth and Aidan Smith was fourth in the 100-hurdles at 18.15 seconds.

Cox and Good each placed fourth in the triple jump and shot put, hitting distances of 29-9.75 and 36-5.

A pair of fifths came from Dylan Cordes in the 1600 (5:40) and Smith in the 200-hurdles (32.75), while four more Cubs came in sixth.

Those came from Zack Griffin in the 200-dash (27.95), Jacobson in the 1600 (5:41), Cox in the 200-hurdles (33.85) and Lynn in the discus (102-11.5).
