Memorial services for former Powell resident Shirley Maureen Kysar, 74, were Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Mortimore Funeral Home in Thermopolis. She died at Washakie Memorial Hospital in Worland on Friday, Dec. 29.
Cal Voigt of Thermopolis officiated at memorial services.
She was born Nov. 3, 1926, in Chicago, Ill., the daughter of William Frank and Hyla (Johnson) Keller. The family moved to Powell when she was a child.
She married Jack Fredrick Kysar in Billings, Mont., on Nov. 8, 1950. The couple lived in Powell where she was a homemaker. They divorced in 1970.
She moved to Thermopolis in 1972 and worked at the Sideboard Cafe for many years, then the Manhattan Cafe. She worked at the Owl Bar and then for Rich and Marge Evans, owners of Mac's Bar. They treated her like family. Small of stature, she could barely see over the bar, but she ruled with an iron fist and a kind heart. She was employed at Mac's for ten years.
From 1975 to 1983, her companion was Bill Blizzard. He died in 1983.
She enjoyed bingo, World Championship Wrestling, fishing, watching baseball, gardening, dog races, poker machines and having coffee with friends. Her greatest joy was her family.
Survivors include a son, Jeffery Kysar, Las Vegas, Nev.; three daughters, Carola O'Brien and Jackie Kysar, both of Thermopolis, and Judy Higgens, Bellvile, Mich.; three sisters, Janice Fritz and Marge Wheeler, both of Powell, and Pat McPherson of Casper; seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Teddy Dean; brothers Bob, Kenny and Jerry Keller; and a great grandson, Hess.
