Oliver Murray Dawson, 85, died Aug. 22, 2016.

He was born on April 23, 1931, to Oliver P. and Bessie Dawson in Shelley, Idaho.

After graduating from Shelley High School in 1949, Oliver attended one year of college at the University of Wyoming.

He entered the U.S. Air Force in 1951 and was stationed in San Antonio, Texas.

Oliver graduated from BYU with a degree in marketing in 1955. He married Goldy Mehas on Aug. 7, 1955, and together they had two children, Cynthia and Ted.

Oliver started his future career in Idaho Falls, Idaho, working for a CPA firm. He later worked for the Internal Revenue Service.

Oliver bought a CPA practice in Cody, where he practiced until his retirement in 1983.

At that time, he and Goldy were able to enjoy many years of traveling both with friends and family.

Oliver was an avid alpine skier, passing that love of the sport to his family. He still skied at the age of 80.

His passion for fishing started with walking the Snake River with his dad. His son Ted was his fishing partner for many years traveling to Alaska, Canada and the Arctic Circle. Oliver had many fishing buddies and as many fishing stories to go along with them and their adventures.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Betty and Ann.

Oliver is survived by his wife Goldy; daughter Cynthia; son Ted and daughter-in-law Valina; grandson William; and brother J.M. and sister-in-law Beverly; as well as his second family of close friends in Cody.

Memorial donations can be made in his honor to a charity of one’s choice. A celebration of Oliver’s life will be determined at a later date. Ballard Funeral Home has been entrusted with arrangements.
