Myron “Mike” L. Meredith, 74, died unexpectedly on Thursday, Feb. 4, 2016.
He was born Nov. 26, 1941 in Kenosha, Wisconsin, to Arthur and Marjorie Gunter Meredith.
Mike graduated from Union Grove High School and went on to enlist in the U.S. Air Force, serving in Japan. Upon his return, he attended Racine Kenosha Teachers College, graduating with a degree in elementary education.
Mike then moved to Wyoming for several years to work as a ranch hand south of Douglas. His time at the Willox and Pexton ranches started his love for agriculture, leading him to return to school at Sheridan College and then University of Wyoming to receive degrees in Vo-Ag.
Mike then returned to Wisconsin to teach before permanently moving back to Wyoming to teach and coach at Greybull High School, retiring in 1996.
He then worked for Stilyard Enterprises in Shell, Murdoch Oil in Greybull and Horton Farms. The itch to teach and coach caught him again and led him to Cloud Peak Middle School. Never being able to sit still, he also worked for Big Horn Co-op and cleaned the Forest Service and B & G Industries offices.
Mike’s faith was extremely important to him and he shared that faith with others as a lay pastor. He never could leave education far behind having been active with and serving as chairman of the Greybull School Board.
He is survived by his loving wife of 38 years, Sharon; daughters Sheila (Chris) Kampbell and Melanie (Doug) Bowen; grandchildren Brady Shoemaker, Karisa Kampbell, Weston Stafford, KayLynn, Peyton, Brycen and Devin (expected in April) Bowen. Mike is also survived by his sister Virginia Ellingson; many nieces, nephews, cousins, sisters-in-law, brother-in-law and many friends, as he never met a stranger.
He will be forever missed by all who knew him.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, Feb. 13, at 10 a.m. in the Greybull High School Gymnasium with a life celebration reception to follow at the Elks Lodge.
