Michael Lee Rice, 59, lost his battle with Leukemia Saturday evening Nov. 21, 2015, at the Huntsman Cancer Institute in Salt Lake City. He was surrounded by his loving wife, Sara, and many family.
Mike was an inspiration to many during his treatments, always kind and caring for others and for those who were helping him.
Mike was born in Cody to Dave Wade Rice and Betty Ellen Norskog on Dec. 9, 1955. He grew up in here in Powell, returning in later years to help out his mother. Upon leaving Powell 10 years ago, he moved to Rangely, Colorado where he became the Maintenance Department manager at the Rangely District Hospital. He was well loved in his job and made friends quickly. Mike was ready to lend a helping hand at any time and the last to ask for recognition.
He met the love of his life, Sara, at the hospital and they were married soon after. She was his soul-mate and his world was built around her. During his battle with cancer they were inseparable.
He is preceded in death by his parents and one older brother Allen Wade Rice.
He is survived by his wife Sara Rice of Rangely; son Wade Rice; granddaughter Sammi Quintana; great-granddaughter Areiah of Magna, UT and daughter Randi Bell of Utah; daughter Jessica Herrera of Grand Junction, CO; daughter and son-in-law Lysa and Kyle Hixson; grandson Eli Hixson of Rangely; and son and daughter-in-law James and Samantha Herrera of Fruita, CO; Sister-in-law Billie Rice of Santaquin, UT; Sister and brother-in-law Nancy and Don Barnett; Brother and sister-in-law Bernie and Leslie Rice of Rangely, CO; Sister and brother-in-law Marie and Richard Holdsworth and many nieces and nephews.
