Evelyn Bernice Scott Allphin died Tuesday, April 7, 2015, rejoining her sweetheart, Alvie. She was 99.

Born in a one-room house in Bowen, Mo., Feb. 7, 1916, to William Truman and Edda Maude Dickey Scott. The family arrived in Wyoming in April 1924, and homesteaded near Sheridan.

Blessed with a brilliant mind, Evelyn treasured her school years. She attended a one-room school house and completed eighth-grade with the highest test scores in Wyoming. She attended high school in Sheridan, graduating with honors in 1933.

Evelyn played the piano as Alva Dodd Allphin sang, offering a perfect opportunity for romance to blossom. They married Dec. 9, 1934, in Billings, and were later sealed in the Logan Temple. As Depression-era newlyweds, they both worked various jobs and moved around Wyoming and Montana, until finally making Cody their permanent home in 1952.

During these years, their family grew to include Deanne in 1942 and Scott in 1951. Evelyn loved her home, and lived in the house Alvie built for their family on Salsbury Avenue for 62 years, up until a few short weeks before her death.

Evelyn was a skilled homemaker, an excellent seamstress and kept an immaculate home. She worked as a secretary at Eastside School for 17 years.

Evelyn treasured her role as a wife and mother, and although rarely in the starring role, she was always in the wings as their greatest supporter.

Evelyn continued to support her family as a grandparent.

Her greatest passions after her family were genealogy work and dancing.

Evelyn joined the LDS church as a high school sophomore and remained active throughout her life.

She is survived by her children Deanne (Keith) Smith and Scott (Gwen) Allphin of Cody; grandchildren Julie-Dee Alt of Great Falls, Mont., and Christian and Elizabeth Allphin of Cody; and great-grandson Gabriel Alt.

She was preceded in death by her husband Alvie in 1992.

Funeral services were held Saturday, April 11, in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Cody. Burial was at Riverside Cemetery. Ballard Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
