Wyoming is the Cowboy State

Dear Editor:

Just have to disagree with a comment by Mark Jenkins in the Dec. 1 issue. He wrote in his guest column that “Cowboy State” is erroneous in that “less than 3% of the workforce is in ranching and farming.” Sounds like a metro Cheyenne idea to me.

Wyoming is most definitely the Cowboy State in my humble opinion. Just because not too many folks are in ranching and farming does not negate the fact, I believe, that we are in said Cowboy State as we honor a pioneering spirit with all its ramifications.

OK, not everyone wears cowboy hats and boots and Western-style shirts. That’s not it! It is an attitude of loyalty, patriotism, devotedness and being trustworthy to our country’s ideals. It is the adherence to a code of ethics; helping one’s neighbors; standing for the flag; a belief in God Almighty. There, I’ve said enough.

Cowboy State forever.
