Dear editor:
According to the Wyoming State Constitution Article I, Sec. 6 “No person shall be deprived of life, ...” The language is quite clear. Upon conception and the ‘spark of life’ that occurs at that time, cells begin to multiply and according to the definition of ‘life’ a new person has come into existence with unique DNA, separate from any other person. A new citizen as it were, whose “equality in the enjoyment of natural and civil rights” is guaranteed by Article I, Sec 2 & 3 of our State Constitution. Article I, Sec 7 continues to protect each “citizen” of the great state of Wyoming further in that “Absolute, arbitrary power over the lives, liberty and property of freemen exits nowhere in a republic, not even in the largest majority.”
The question under Art II, Sec 38 (a) is does “... the parent, guardian or legal representative” who has the right to make Health care decisions have the right to ‘end’ the life of another person? Medical decisions to discontinue the use of necessary drugs, or care that will ‘result’ in the end of life are different from ‘ending’ someone’s life.
Once upon a time in our country, our medical community swore to “do no harm.” Sadly, this is no longer the case. Irreparable harm is being allowed on our minor children. Our women are being coerced that the ‘sacrifice’ of another’s precious life is somehow their “right.” Ending the life of another is forbidden in our state and in our country without due process according to both our state and national constitutions. If we, the citizens of this great State of Wyoming, turn a blind eye and plug our ears to the cries of the innocent begging for their “right to life,” how long then will it be until senior citizens or the disabled are next?
All human life is precious from its beginning until its natural end. You will not be held blameless for allowing evil to harm your brothers and sisters or the stranger in your midst. We should fear and love God so that we do not hurt or harm our neighbor in his body but help and support him in every physical need. Throughout our faith God has tasked us to love one another. Murder is not, and never will be, an act of love.
