Woman held on charges of aggravated assault with deadly weapon

Park County resident Rani Nomura was arrested Friday on a felony charge of aggravated assault and battery with a deadly weapon, driving while under the influence and driving while license was suspended or revoked.

Park County Sheriff’s Deputy Tyler Morean responded Friday to a report of a domestic disturbance in Ralston.

The reporting party, Jason Showalter, told Morean that Nomura came into his residence appearing intoxicated.

“Roni (sic) Nomura then became aggressive and started yelling at Jason Showalter stating things about how she is a bad mother. Roni (sic) Nomura then started to push Jason Showalter which resulted in Jason also pushing Nomura to get her off of him,” according to Morean’s affidavit.

Allegedly, Nomura then grabbed a clothes iron and hit Showalter in the face, below his right temple. Nomura fled the scene after Showalter began to call 911.

Deputy Andrew Palmer was contacted and informed that Nomura had left the scene of the domestic and was driving a vehicle, according to an affidavit by Palmer.

Palmer followed the vehicle until he was able to read the license plate; he was advised by deputy Morean to pull the vehicle over based on evidence at the scene.

Palmer states in the affidavit Nomura had blood on her face and was unable to complete sobriety tests and “her speech was slurred, she was unable to put together her thoughts or a timeline of the events of the evening.”

Nomura admitted to having relapsed and being intoxicated.  She refused EMS evaluation at the scene. Upon transport to the Park County Detention Center, she had a blood alcohol content of 0.139%

Nomura, who had an initial appearance on Friday and is currently held on a $10,000 cash only bond, has had three previous DWUI convictions, one of which was within the last 10 years.
