Where to vote in today’s Primary Election

Posted

As is the case with most parts of life in 2020, voting will look different in Park County for today’s (Tuesday’s) primary election.

More people than ever have already cast their votes by absentee ballot or early voting and several rural polling places have been closed in response to the challenges posed by the pandemic. But numerous voters will still head to the polls today.

Citizens in the Garland, Clark, Heart Mountain and Powell areas, can all cast their ballots at the Park County Fairgrounds. For voters in the Cody area, there are three places to vote: the Cody Rec Center, Cody Auditorium and Park County Courthouse. (The location depends on where the person resides.) For Meeteetse area voters, ballots can be cast at the Meeteetse Senior Center.

Many voters have already sent in their ballots for today’s election, with more than 5,500 absentee ballots requested as of the middle of last week. For context, only 6,750 people voted in the 2016 primary election, indicating that in-person turnout could be significantly lighter today.

Amid a “year of tumult,” Wyoming Secretary of State Ed
Buchanan is assuring voters they can remain confident in the safety, accuracy and fairness of the state’s elections.

“Working with state health officials, we have made polling locations safe. The election process remains secure as ever. COVID-19 should not deter any Wyoming voter from casting their ballot,” Buchanan said last week, adding, “I can assure voters that their vote will be counted accurately and with integrity by election professionals.”

Wyoming allows voters to register on Election Day. To register, you must be at least 18 years old, a U.S. citizen and reside in the precinct where you’re registering. Voters must present a valid driver’s license or another acceptable identification. For more information about voter registration, visit http://parkcounty.us/PCElections.
