Walls, costs going up at Game and Fish’s new office

Posted

Construction is continuing at the site of the new Wyoming Game and Fish Department’s new regional office building outside of Cody. Progress has become more visible as crews begin construction of exterior walls.

The cost has also risen, with the Game and Fish Commission approving a $420,726.55 change order on Wednesday “to ensure the project progresses as planned,” the department said. That followed a $329,675.76 change order in May that was attributed to increasing building material costs.

The commission has budgeted up to $10 million for the project.

“Significant headway has occurred at the construction site since we broke ground in the spring,” said Dan Smith, regional wildlife supervisor. “A lot of dirt work has been done, utilities have been installed, foundation work has been completed and concrete floors have been poured.”

Crews have begun to set steel columns for exterior walls of the main office and construction on a cold storage building is underway.

“Construction crews hope to have the main building dried in by fall so interior work can occur during the winter months,” Smith said.

The building is estimated to be completed in June 2022, replacing a decades-old facility south of Cody that the department has outgrown.

The site of the new office building is less than 1 mile north of Cody on Wyo. Highway 120, near the highway’s intersection with Road 2ABN.
