The Cody VA Clinic team is scheduling flu clinics for Cody and Powell area veterans enrolled in VA by appointment only. The clinics will run from 1-3:30 p.m. each Thursday and Friday in October.
Enrolled veterans in the Cody and Powell area are encouraged to call 307-587-4015, Option 2 to schedule an appointment for their flu shot. To take part they will need their VA identification and a mask. If a veteran does not have a mask, one will be provided as they are required at the Cody VA Clinic. Attendees should consider wearing a shirt with easy access to the shoulder.
Veterans who have a fever, cough or any other coronavirus symptoms the day of their shot, should call the clinic to reschedule their appointment.
As for why veterans should get a flu shot now, the VA says it takes about two weeks after vaccination for antibodies that protect against flu to develop in a person’s body.
“By getting a flu shot, you will be less likely to spread flu to others. Every year, hundreds of thousands of Americans are hospitalized with the flu,” the VA says, noting the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommends that everyone 6 months or older get a yearly flu shot.
