Velma Gillett Moore, 94, passed away Tuesday, Nov. 12, 2024, at her home in Bellingham, Washington.
Velma was born Nov. 23, 1929, in Powell, Wyoming. She was the oldest child of Elgin and Garnette Gillett.
Velma married Leon Moore of Era, Texas, on Dec. 18, 1948, in Casper, Wyoming. Leon preceded her in death on May 1, 2014.
After some traveling with Leon’s work in the oil fields, they made their home in Billings, Montana. As Leon’s health failed, they moved to Spokane, Washington to be closer to daughter and son-in-law, Carol and Jan Willis. After Leon’s death she relocated to Bellingham, Washington, to be near additional family members.
Velma worked as a bookkeeper for Star Office Machines for 20 years in Billings, Montana, retiring in 1991. She enjoyed spending time with her family, especially great-grandsons James and Nathan Hadfield. She felt privileged to be able to watch them grow up. She also enjoyed gardening, reading, and jigsaw puzzles.
Velma was preceded in death by her parents, Elgin and Garnette Gillett, brother Glenn Gillett and husband Leon Moore.
She is survived by son, Eddie Moore of Missoula, Montana; grandson Sean Satake and great-grandson Jack; daughter Carol (Jan) Willis of Lynden, Washington, granddaughters Ashley (Peter) Crawford, Summer (Phil) Hadfield and two great-grandsons; and sister Ileene Kobbe of Powell, Wyoming.
Services will be held for Velma in Powell, Wyoming at 1 p.m. Friday, Nov. 22, at Thompson Funeral Home, 111 West Third. She will be interred at Crown Hill Cemetery in Powell, Wyoming.
