An Evansville resident was arrested Wednesday on a felony charge after being pulled over in Cody in a white Dodge Ram that was allegedly stolen from Natrona County High School in Casper.

Trinity Rowland is being held on a $10,000 cash only bond. Theft over $1,000 is a felony that can result in up to 10 years in prison and a $10,000 fine.

Park County Sheriff’s Deputy Tyler Morean had received a report that two individuals had been discussing the warrants for their arrest while at the Exxon gas station on Yellowstone Avenue in Cody.

Dispatch was able to use provided license plate information to discover that the vehicle was reported stolen.

After locating Rowland and his passenger, both followed Morean’s instructions to exit the vehicle.

According to the affidavit, Morean heard Rowland say “something to the effect of, ‘is this because the truck is reported stolen?’”

Cody Police Sgt. Josh Van Auken arrived and assisted in questioning Rowland and the passenger. Rowland denied stealing the vehicle and claimed that he knew the owner and was told by the owner’s daughter to pick the truck up in the high school parking lot. Rowland failed to identify the owner with the correct name.

Rowland was placed under arrest and later, according to the affidavit told Morean he was not honest.

Rowland allegedly admitted to stealing the truck while walking through the parking lot with his brother.

“Trinity Rowland decided that he could use the truck for his benefit to make some money hauling scrap metal,” Morean said in the affidavit. “Trinity Rowland also stated something to  the effect of ‘I also wanted to teach the owner of the vehicle a lesson for leaving his truck unlocked.’”

The owner of the vehicle, a coach who was out of town for a game, confirmed that he did not give permission for anyone to use his truck. He estimated the value around $35,000.
