In a season that was far from ordinary, the Park County Ice Cats 14U squad did not have enough players to form a team of their own.
The solution?
Combining their team with the Pinedale Glaciers and forming a new team called the Glacier Cats.
By joining forces and creating a new team, the Ice Cats and the Glaciers were at the disadvantage of being unfamiliar with each other coming into the season. However, the team went to the state tournament in Gillette in early March with the goal of winning the bantam B state championship.
The team started the tournament by defeating the Rock Springs Miners 9-3 on Friday, March 4 before defeating the Laramie Outlaws 6-5 on the afternoon of Saturday, March 5.
On Saturday night, the Glacier Cats lost to the Jackson Moose 7-2. However, the joint team still advanced to the championship game on Sunday, March 6, for a rematch with the Outlaws.
Despite not knowing each other prior to the season, the Park County and Pinedale players came together like a team that had known each other for years. They defeated the Outlaws again, 5-1, to take home the 14U bantam B championship.
The Glacier Cats were led by a variety of coaches, including Ice Cats bantam coach JW Robinson. The team featured four players from Powell: Cash Ashcraft, Nate Cobourn, Jace Harris and Tucker Robinson.
