Tour aims to inspire more women to discover joys of fly fishing

The East Yellowstone Chapter of Trout Unlimited will host a fly fishing film tour on Tuesday, Feb. 11, at Big Horn Cinemas in Cody. The 50/50 On the Water Film Tour includes 11 short films from around the world, featuring women and fly fishing.

The 50/50 On the Water campaign aims to inspire more women to get out on the water and discover the joys of fly fishing.

“By breaking down some of the barriers that keep women from enjoying time on the stream, we can add new perspectives and bring new voices into the sport,” said Kathy Crofts, president of the East Yellowstone Chapter of Trout Unlimited. “And if we are going to protect what we love through conservation efforts, the more voices the better.”

Larry Timchak, vice president of the local chapter, believes it’s a great time for fly fishing films.

“We are in the middle of winter with spring fishing right around the corner — a great time to escape winter and dream about future fishing adventures by watching films from the U.S. and around the world,” he said.

There will be two showings of the films on Feb. 11 — one at 4:30 p.m. and a second at 7 p.m. Tickets cost $10, with all proceeds supporting the conservation and education efforts of the East Yellowstone Chapter of Trout Unlimited. In addition to the films, there will be a raffle that includes fishing rods, packs, sunglasses, clothing and other fishing gear.

Tickets are available online at https://5050onthewater.orvis.com and will also be available at the door.
