Trapper Bonanza swings into action

Calcutta makes long awaited return Friday

A key annual fundraiser for Trapper Athletics returns this weekend as the Trapper Bonanza kicks off Friday and Saturday.

The festivities begin Friday night at 6 p.m. Northwest hosts a steak dinner at Homesteader Hall as part of the fundraising festivities.

That dinner will cost $20 per person, unless you are a golfer who has signed up for the event, with the dinner included in the price.

The dinner features different activities including putting, hoop shoot and Yahtzee for winning-prizes and money.

“We are trying to spread the word and get some excitement about Trapper Athletics,” said Northwest Athletic Director Brian Erickson.

Capping off the evening’s events will be the return of calcutta — which has not made an appearance since 2019.

A calcutta is an auction where those present can bet on a team to win the golf tournament on Saturday, and win a return of the overall winnings if they placed a bet on the winning team.

Heading into Saturday, teams involved in the golf tournament will hit the course at the Powell Golf Club at 10 a.m.

The tournament on Saturday will be a four-person scramble format with different competitions throughout the day for an opportunity to win prizes.

Those wishing to enter the tournament will be  charged $110 per player or $440 per team. Entry fees will cover all fees at the course and cart fees.

Final entries for the tournament will be accepted until Friday at noon. Those wishing to register the day of or after noon on Friday will not be included in the calcutta Friday night.

Erickson said all proceeds from the event will go toward the Trapper athletic scholarship endowment.
