The Powell Pioneers Legion Baseball team reached new heights in 2021, and that was shown by its representation in the Class “A” All-State Teams.
Kobe Ostermiller and Brock Johnson were named to the All-State First Team, while Trey Stenerson picked up second-team honors. Johnson and Ostermiller both previously made second team, while this is Stenerson’s first selection.
Ostermiller, one of five seniors on the roster, led the team with four roundtrippers, three of which were launched out-of-the-park. He also led the team with a .487 batting average and a .560 on-base percentage.
An incoming sophomore, Johnson had the second-best batting average at .403. On the mound, Johnson posted a 1.70 ERA in almost 50 innings, helping him win West District Pitcher of the Year honors. He also threw a no-hitter on May 16.
Stenerson batted .371 on the year and led the team in extra-base hits, with 25. He had his first-career inside-the-park home run against Buffalo at the West District Tournament on July 16.
A handful of other Pioneers made the West District All-Conference teams: Jhett Schwahn, Cade Queen, Mason Marchant and Kolt Flores. The Pioneers finished the year 31-12 and won a game at the state tournament.
“We had a great season,” said Powell manager Joe Cates. “The team meshed really well this year; they built around each other. I just hope it continues.”
