Compete for a Cause, the annual talent competition and fundraiser, is returning for a third year.

At the unique show, performers from across the Big Horn Basin use their talents to bless the lives of others. The 2021 Compete for a Cause recipient is Lyla Wead of Cody. Lyla is a first-grader who suffers from a severe form of epilepsy called Dravet syndrome.

There are many things she cannot do and many places she cannot go. So, 100% of the proceeds from this year’s show will go to fund a StoryWalk and Kindness Benches outside the Cody children’s library.

“This will create a safe and fun place for Lyla and everyone to enjoy!” said organizer Brook Grant, asking area residents to help create a “happy place” that the child can enjoy.

To make it into Compete for a Cause’s live show, video auditions must be sent by June 15 to compete4cause@gmail.com. Any talent and all ages are welcome, with trophies awarded for the top finishers in each age group and overall.

The live show will be held Aug. 7 at Cody City Park at 6 p.m.

“Come early, bring your lawn chairs, eat from our food vendors, and shop the silent auctions items while you wait for the show to start,” Grant said, adding, “Lyla will not be able to attend the live show due to her condition so we are going to livestream her in. Help us pack the park in the Compete for a Cause shirts that are custom made for her.”

The T-shirts can be pre-ordered leading up to the show; find a link on the Compete for a Cause Facebook and Instagram pages.

As for the Kindness Benches, they can be purchased in honor or in memory of any individual. Each bench will have a name plate along with a kindness quote of the donor’s choice.

Email compete4cause@gmail.com for more information or call Grant at 307-250-0998.
