Swimming strengthens success

Swimming has become like second nature to Noah Kiser.

Kiser originally was afraid of water when he was younger, but has taken to the pool in recent years in order to help him get stronger.

“I like it a lot,” Kiser said. “It has definitely helped me be stronger.”

Most people recognize Kiser as the kid who does push-ups at basketball games, leading the student section, cheering on his fellow Panther athletes during his senior year.

Kiser has Down Syndrome, but he has not let that slow him down in his mission to be competitive in swimming.

Over the years, Kiser has learned how to swim from Christopher Wolff, who is an adaptive P.E. teacher in Powell.

Swimming has been an important part of Kiser’s workout routine, helping his cardio over the years, improving his competitive edge and overall health.

Coming up against other students at an invitational on May 25, Kiser outswam most of the competition as he was able to show off his skills to other students his age.

During the event, Kiser used his knowledge to help teach other athletes a proper kick turn technique.

Finishing off his senior year and graduating, Kiser also received one last special gift from his fellow classmates.

During the Powell athletics year-end awards banquet Kiser was named the Panthers No. 1 supporter of the year and was recognized by the PHS Letter Club officers.

“It was pretty cool to receive that award,” Kiser said. “I was really excited.”

Building on the success of his swimming and support from his friends, Kiser completed a lifeguard challenge, on top of helping younger students learn to swim.

Following high school he is hoping to continue his hard work in the real world, as he earned a job helping others work out and find their passion.
