With the season wrapping up, 10 Powell High School swimmers ventured to Lander to compete in the Last Chance meet. The Thursday event gave competitors one last chance to qualify for the state meet this weekend.

Paige Thomas achieved her fourth state-qualifying time, in the 100 breaststroke. Her time of 1:19.63 was the best in the event.

The Panthers recorded eight personal-best times at the event. Two swimmers recorded double personal bests, with Thomas in the 100 breaststroke and 200 individual medley, and Rebekah Hendershot in the 50 freestyle and 100 freestyle.

Others who recorded personal bests were Emma Brence, Croix Tryon, Aubree Fisher and Azurdey Burton. The biggest improvements came from Brence in the 200 individual medley (four seconds), Hendershot in the 100 freestyle (four seconds) Fisher in the 100 backstroke (six seconds) and Thomas in the 100 breaststroke (four seconds).

Powell’s season will come to an end this weekend, with the culminating Class 3A State Swimming and Diving Championships set to take place on Friday and Saturday in Laramie.
