Support continued access to public lands

Dear Editor:

Public land access is more important now than ever. Having hunted in a majority of the western states, public land access is a common problem for the average hunter or fisherman. Some of the best hunting ground all over the west is either privately owned or privately accessed. I was very glad to learn that the unit for my quality limited-quota elk tag last year used the Wyoming Game and Fish’s Access YES! Program by providing access with a Hunter Management Area.

I participated in the program each hunting trip and ultimately ended up killing my bull elk on public land that was only reasonably accessible through that private land enrolled in the Hunter Management Area. I witnessed a handful of other hunters take advantage of this program throughout my hunting season, each being careful to show respect for the private property and their roadways. This program is worth investing in for the future of public land hunters for years to come.

I encourage you to contact your senators and ask them to support HB 122 so we can have more of these places to hunt and fish in Wyoming.
