Summer reading: Tails and Tales edition

Posted

The month of July finds the Park County libraries continuing to be busy, as we finish up summer reading.

The Powell Library continues to supply fun activities for all ages as we celebrate Tails and Tales, our theme for summer reading. Summer reading will wrap up on July 23 for all ages, so make sure and get everything turned in by July 22.

Of course, you still have time to sign up and participate in all the fun activities. Make sure and weigh the books you check out from the library as we try and find out how much weight the Powell community can read over the summer.

June was extremely busy, as we delivered fabulous programs. Thank you to everyone who stopped by and enjoyed our library petting zoo at the fairgrounds, nature hike, raptor show, the Lego guy and the magic show. The Powell Library loves to provide these wonderful programs for the community.

We have a lot of fun activities planned for July. Remember to join our fabulous children’s librarian, Ms. Renee, for Toddler Time every Monday at 10:30 a.m. and Storytime every Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. during the summer.

Powell Library will be offering special events for all ages.

On Tuesday at 11:30 a.m., Diamond Wing Game Birds will be visiting the library for a presentation. On Wednesday at 1 p.m., there will be a library scavenger hunt for teens. On Thursday, July 8, 15 and 22 at 10:30 a.m., stop by for Lego fun for families.

On Monday, July 12 at 2 p.m., we will have a learn to make pet treats program. Then on Wednesday, July 14 at 1 p.m., the library will host a pizza and movie program for teens.

Join us for a special author talk on Thursday, July 23 at 5:30 p.m., as Shirley Ann Higuchi discusses her book, “Setsuko’s Secret: Heart Mountain and the Legacy of the Japanese American Incarceration.”

Powell Library will finish up summer reading with a special program for all ages at the bandshell at Washington Park. Join us for Mike Schneider and Pint Size Polkas on Wednesday, July 21 at 1 p.m. Come sing, clap, and dance to favorite songs, come enjoy magic, comedy and music.

Don’t forget to stop by every Thursday from 1-3 p.m. for the Friends of the Library book sale. Have fun finding a favorite read and supporting library programs with every purchase.

Please note the library will be closed Saturday through Monday in honor of the Independence Day holiday.
