Dear Editor:
How very interesting, fascinating really. Powell’s city council in a desire for revenue, seeks to introduce an animal slaughterhouse in south Powell. Across the tracks, yet.
Perhaps Powell can become a Little Chicago reminiscent of the early 1900s, with all of the perfumes and solitude of that era. We might attract the attention of reformers, maybe a latter-day Upton B. Sinclair, writing a modern sequel to “The Jungle.” We can hope.
If the requirement for revenue is so pressing, perhaps the city council can employ a modern architect of great renown (Louis Sullivan, Philip Johnson and Frank Lloyd Wright are no longer available) to design an elaborate, even magnificent, multi-story bordello and advertise all along the Rockies front. Preferably out some distance on U.S. Highway 14, which is where the slaughterhouse belongs. My sympathy and compassion to the neighbors of the current proposal.
