Powell took the measure of Worland on Friday night in Cody, winning 45-34 in a 3A wrestling dual.
The Panthers won behind pins from Colt Nicholson (106 pounds), Trevor Feller (126), Michael Maddox (138), Corey Linebaugh (138), Seth Horton (152), Matt Seckman (195) and Carson Olsen (220).
Regulation time for those seven matches is 42 minutes, however the Panthers needed only 11 minutes, 35 seconds to get their work done, clock out early and relax.
Coach Nate Urbach’s Panthers also scored a 9-6 decision by Riley Bennett at 145 for Powell’s final three points.
Worland’s answer included wins by fall over Panther Logan Werner at 113 and Emma Karhu at 120. Powell 160-pounder Wyatt Multon was pinned as was Lannon Brazelton in the bout at 170. In the heavyweight match, Panther Dallas Oliver was defeated in an 11-1 decision.
The Warriors also picked up six points at 182, where Powell was open.
The win over Worland wrapped up the Panthers’ regular season. This Friday and Saturday, the Powell squad travels to Mountain View for regional state tournament qualifying. The state championships at the Casper Events Center will follow on Friday, Feb. 28 and Saturday, Feb. 29.
