Local residents flocked to Powell High School on Thanksgiving Day to participate in the annual Turkey Trot.

The “Run for the Robots” — a benefit for the PHS robotics club — drew 88 runners and walkers for either a 5K or a 1-mile run/walk

In the 5K, PHS junior and cross country standout Daniel Merritt topped the field with a time of 19 minutes and 29 seconds. His father, Ladell Merritt, took second with a time of 21:07, while PHS senior Riley Schiller finished third in 21:47.

Michela Morrissey, who competed in the 20-29 age bracket, bested the field for the women with a time of 22:29, followed by Teresa Clark (23:20) and Lorien Legler (23:28).

In the mile, Benjamin Smith of the 13-and-under category, posted the top time for the men; he ran the race in 7 minutes and 3 seconds, followed by Riley McKeen (8:07) and Tucker Kovach (8:11).

Veronica Kovach, also in the 13 and under division, topped the field for the women with a time of 8:18. She was followed by Ali Miller (9:34) and Maya Landwehr (9:39).

A total of 49 people participated in the 5K with another 39 participating in the mile, all to benefit the robotics club.
