Dear editor:
Before my house caught on fire and all my health problems from that fire, I was in a very dark place. I was in a place where I believed the whole world was evil and there was no good in it. My heart had gone hard and bitter from so many hardships throughout my life. I wish it wouldn’t have happened with how hard it’s been for my wife, my son and myself, and it’s probably going to stay hard for a while. I believe that the LORD did this for a reason, to knock the devil out of me and open my eyes. The way people have reacted, the fire department, police, the EMTs, doctors, hospitals, nurses, staff, my neighbors and especially the VA. They all reacted with love, patience, gentleness, kindness and care. Made me realize that there is good in this world. I just can’t thank all of you enough; you probably saved my life getting me on that helicopter. Thank you, thank all of you for all your help. It makes me cry tears of joy at how good people can be.
