RaeAnn Jackson has 200 pumpkins for your fall festivities

On South Bernard Street RaeAnn Jackson, a sixth grade student at Powell Middle School, is trying to sell 200 pumpkins out of her grandma’s front yard. Not all of the pumpkins are on site, of course.

“She sold around 40 to 50, something like that so far,” said Lynn Jackson, RaeAnn’s grandmother. “We’ve got more back here [in the backyard] and more in the horse trailer and more still at the farm.”

RaeAnn loves growing and selling pumpkins, although a reason for the exact number escaped her.

“I like selling pumpkins, the last two years I’ve sold pumpkins,” RaeAnn said.

She joked that she didn’t sell 200 pumpkins last year but has already sold more than the previous year. This is the first year that RaeAnn has sold pumpkins from a stand. In the past, Lynn, a longtime paraeducator at Parkside Elementary, would take orders from the staff and RaeAnn’s father would deliver the pumpkins to their new homes.

The stand was a family effort. Her dad built the stand and shelves for pumpkins and fall treats, while Lynn painted the signs and provided decorations.

The stand is open Wednesdays 3-6 p.m., Fridays noon-5:30 p.m. and Saturday 10 a.m.- 4 p.m. Small pumpkins are $3, medium pumpkins are $5, large pumpkins are $9 and extra large are $12.

RaeAnn plans to save the money, most likely for college or maybe for more horses.

“I have two of our like seven [horses],” she said proudly.
