Race4Recovery presents $12,000 check for breast cancer battle

Posted

A motocross event at last month’s Park County Fair wound up raising more than $12,000 for Stephanie Warren, a Powell Middle School teacher who was diagnosed with breast cancer in December.

The nonprofit Race4Recovery hosted the July 30 event and last week, Race4Recovery founders Talan Hooper and Josh Ashcraft presented Warren with a $12,350 check representing the event’s proceeds. The Powell teens promoted the event, solicited sponsors, designed and built the track, and organized the race, along with the nonprofit’s board of directors. They plan to do more events in the future to not only raise money for those in need, but to also promote the sport of motocross.

This is the second time Race4Recovery has raised money for a local cause. The group put on a motocross event in 2019 that raised $6,000 for the family of Ethan Asher, a local teen who was paralyzed in a motor vehicle accident.
