People dealing with Parkinson’s Disease in the community, and their caregivers, have a unique opportunity available to them Aug. 5-7 thanks to a collaborative effort by local therapists and dietitians, who have organized a boot camp geared toward helping people to better understand and manage the disease.
“We have come together and coordinated a program to help people we currently work with and anyone else in the community who could benefit from doing some therapy and education sessions,” said Brittany Asay, a local speech therapist. “Participants will have the opportunity to work with physical, occupational, and speech therapists all in one setting, as well as learn from a registered dietitian about the importance of good nutrition.”
The Parkinson’s Boot Camp will take place at the Park County School District Support Services building at 245 N. Evarts St. Each day from 9 a.m. until noon, participants will enjoy a light breakfast, then go through therapeutic activities, education and positive social interaction. Participants are encouraged to bring a family member or caregiver to participate in the program with them. People will need to register for the event by requesting a registration form by contacting Martine Grant at Powell Valley Healthcare. Call 307-754-1107 or stop by the hospital to pick up a form.
