Powell-Shoshone students recently competed in the FFA State Convention in Cheyenne.

At the convention April 6-9, Powell-Shoshone FFA was recognized as a chapter of innovation for strengthening agriculture in the community, the Farm Business Management team placed ninth overall, and the Agronomy team placed sixth. The Environmental and Natural Resources team came home with sixth place while the Livestock team placed eighth.

The Agricultural Mechanics team came in 10th place.

Sophomore Wyatt Heffington said this was the Agricultural Mechanics team’s second competition.

“So getting 10th as a team is pretty nice,” he said.

Individually, Heffington placed 11th, and Weston Reynolds placed 32nd. At the State Vet Contest in Torrington on March 29 sophomore Baylee Brence placed 15th overall. Seniors Madison Harvey, Whitney Jones and Rylee White as well as juniors Allison Morrison, and Amber Visocky received state degrees.

The FFA teams were encouraged by their success after the State Convention, which was their third in-person meet of the year, and they are ready to perform even stronger in upcoming competitions.

Powell-Shoshone FFA will compete in the State Wool Judging competition on April 29 and April 30.
