Powell Piranhas strong in early season meet

Jumping back in the pool, the Powell Piranhas took seven athletes to Lander to kick off the winter season Oct. 28-30 at the 39th annual Spooky Splash.

Despite it being the first meet of the season, the Piranhas put up personal bests in a majority of the races with three different Powell swimmers taking first place.

Leading the way with top finishes was 10-year-old Aubree Kraft, who finished first in the 200 free (2:57.82), second in the 500 free (8:04.22) and 100 free (1:23.51), while placing top five in four additional events.

Not to be outdone, Kobus Diver finished in the top five in five events for 17-year-olds. Diver won the 500 free (5:42.97), finished second in the 200 fly (2:48.08) and fourth in the 200 IM (2:21.70) and the 100 breast (1:13.50).

Gabe Rose was the other victor for the Piranhas in the 16-year-old division, winning the 200 fly (2:31.05). He also placed third in the 200 back (2:29.20) and fourth in the 100 fly (1:03.94).

Other competitors included Lynea Christensen (age 11) who placed top 10 in four of her six events, Trystan Preator (14) placed top 10 in three of his four events, David Stensing (14) placed in the top 10 in two of his five events while Baylee Kraft (13) placed top 15 in four out of five events.

So far with times throughout the girls high school season, summer championships and the first meet of the winter season, the Piranhas have 11 athletes qualified for the winter championships and 35 times qualified altogether.
