Powell area churches celebrate Easter throughout the week

It is Holy Week and area churches are holding a variety of services from Wednesday evening through Easter Sunday. Below is service information that was provided to the Tribune by press time.

   

• First United Methodist Church will have a midday service on Good Friday at 12:05 p.m., sponsored by the ministerial association. All are invited and encouraged to bring a brown bag lunch. At 7 p.m. there will also be a combined Good Friday Tenebrae Worship Service with Union Presbyterian. On Holy Saturday at 4 p.m. there will be a combined confirmation service at Battershell Chapel. On Easter Sunday there will be an 11 a.m. service.

• Garland Community Church of God will hold a simple sunrise service at 6:30 a.m. on Easter Sunday, followed by regular worship service at 10:30 a.m.

• Glad Tidings Church will hold an Easter Sunday breakfast for all from 9 a.m. to 10:15 a.m., followed by Easter service at 10:45 a.m.

• Hope Lutheran Church will have Maundy Thursday worship at 6:30 p.m., Good Friday worship at 6:30 p.m. and an Easter morning continental breakfast at 8:45 a.m. Sunday, followed by worship at 9:30 a.m. 

• Lovell United Methodist Church will have a 5 p.m. service on Maundy Thursday, a Good Friday Tenebrae service on Friday at 5 p.m. and a 9 a.m. service on Easter Sunday.

• New Life Church will host a Family Easter Event Wednesday from 6-8 p.m. Snacks will be provided. Families will participate in an “Amazing Race” that will include games and puzzles focused on teaching about Holy Week. On Thursday at 10 a.m. there will be a Special Theology Thursday with Pastor Tim Morrow, and a Good Friday service at 6:30 p.m. There will be Resurrection Sunday services at 8 a.m., 9:30 a.m. and 11 a.m. Nursery for children ages 0 to 4 will be available.

• St. Anthony’s Church in Cody will host its third annual Living Stations of the Cross on Good Friday at 2 p.m. Middle and high school students from Cody, Powell and Burlington will play various roles at different stations that lead up to the crucifixion.

• Trinity Bible Church will host Easter brunch at 9 a.m., with a morning service at 10:30 a.m. and afternoon service at 4 p.m.

• Union Presbyterian will have a combined service at 7 p.m. Thursday with Powell United Methodist Church. On Easter Sunday there will be a 10 a.m. service.
